ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., OCTOBER 9, 2017 - The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the largest specialty organization representing dermatologic surgeons, has awarded Susan H. Weinkle, MD, with its Samuel J. Stegman, MD Award for Distinguished Service.

The Stegman Award – presented to Dr. Weinkle at the 2017 Annual Meeting in Chicago – was inaugurated in 1996 to honor individuals who have significantly contributed to furthering the goals of ASDS in education, organizational service and research.

Dr. Weinkle is licensed in six states, specializing in skin cancer, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and non-surgical cosmetic dermatology.

She was recertified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2009 — one of only a few practicing dermatologists to take and pass this rigorous recertification exam.

Dr. Weinkle is currently serves as Chair of the ASDS Development and Industry Relations Work Group and was elected ASDS President in 2011. Additionally, she received the President’s Award in 2015, 2008 and 2007 and the 2012 Excellence in Education Award. Passionate about teaching, Dr. Weinkle has provided mentorship in a variety of roles at ASDS including the Visiting Professor Program.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Weinkle graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida in 1974 and completed her residency in dermatology at Stanford University Medical Center in 1982, where she held the position of Chief Resident. Dr. Weinkle has been in solo private practice since 1984, specializing in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology.

Eight ASDS members nominated Dr. Weinkle for the Stegman Award.

“What I have found most remarkable about Dr. Weinkle is her commitment to serving post-ASDS presidency,” said Naomi Lawrence, MD. “She co-directs the very successful Resident Symposium and is a skilled fundraiser and arduous proponent of ASDS.”

“Dr. Weinkle has committed so much time and energy to ASDS for many years, chaired many committees and served faithfully and successfully as President,” said Diane Berson, MD. “She also continues to build the Industry Advisory Council, ensuring ASDS maintains important and relevant partner relationships.”
