Current Law

SUNucate legislation has been enacted, allowing sunscreen possession and use by students at school. 2019: SB 922 enacted. Students may self-apply sunscreen at school with written parental/guardian authorization. Applies to children at least 6 years old. Local/regional boards may adopt policies.

Comparison to the SUNucate

Connecticut has adopted core SUNucate concepts, including student possession/use. The state does not yet fully mirror the model bill where additional provisions remain available, such as youth camp protections, sun-protective clothing, hats and sunglasses, sun-safe education, or a sunscreen sales-tax exemption.

Medical Spa Safety Act

Current Law

Connecticut has passed comprehensive medical spa legislation. Connecticut law defines a medical spa as an "establishment in which cosmetic medical procedures are performed, but shall not include, hospitals or other licensed health care facilities". Each medical spa must have a physician, physician assistant or APRN who is licensed and trained in cosmetic medical procedures. The physician, PA, or APRN must perform an initial, in-person assessment of the patient. Cosmetic medical procedures must only be performed by a physician, PA, or APRN or registered nurse. The medical spa must post information with the names and specialty areas of the physician, PA, APRN or RN performing the procedures.
