The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Visiting Professor Program is a new ASDS initiative with the goal of responding to the training needs of dermatology residents across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The program will allow dermatologic surgery experts selected as ASDS Visiting Professors to visit dermatology training programs by program invitation, to lecture and share their expertise for a minimum of one/maximum of three day(s) per visit. In order to ensure the highest number of resident’s benefit from this program, it is recommended that Visiting Professors spread their visits across differing geographic locations, and each program is entitled to one Visiting Professor visit per the 2012 calendar year.
Dermatologic surgery is a growing field that quickly changes as technologies and techniques are developed and integrated into practice. Today’s dermatologic surgeons must be equipped to handle patient requests for anti-aging procedures such as laser resurfacing, neurotoxins and soft-tissue fillers, as well as surgically treat skin cancers, varicose veins or congenital anomalies.
Developed to enhance the educational experience of dermatology residents, the ASDS Visiting Professor Program will allow experts in the specialty to share their clinical expertise, personal insights and perspectives in dermatologic surgery, practice management, and patient care. The program fosters increased competence, improved performance in practice, and better patient outcomes as well as furthers the specialty of dermatologic surgery.
