SUNucate

Current Status: Enacted

Current Law

SUNucate legislation has been enacted. 2019: SB 159 enacted. Students may possess and use sunscreen at public/charter schools and outdoor activities. Sun-protective clothing and hats allowed if compliant with dress code. Supported by SUNucate Coalition and Nevada Cancer Coalition.

Comparison to SUNucate

Nevada has adopted core SUNucate concepts, including student possession/use; sun-protective clothing; hats/sunglasses; sun-safe education. The state does not yet fully mirror the model bill where additional provisions remain available, such as youth camp protections, sun-protective clothing, hats and sunglasses, sun-safe education, or a sunscreen sales-tax exemption.

Opportunities for Improvement

Youth camp protections; staff liability; sales-tax exemption

Medical Spa Safety Act

Current Law

Nevada does not have any state laws regulating medical spas. The Nevada State Board of Nursing and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine have released guidance related to medical spas stating that nurses may perform medical aesthetic services if they are appropriately trained and supervised. Medical spas are considered medical facilities. Patients in a medical spa must be initially examined by a physician or PA. The physician or PA must be adequately trained.

Opportunities for Improvement

Since there are no laws in place, Nevada would benefit from enacting the Medical Spa Safety Act, which would explicitly regulate medical spas, prevent conflicting Board opinions, and reduce confusion for patients and practitioners.
