Now is an important time for dermatologic surgeons to make their voices heard. CMS has proposed a 9% cut to Medicare reimbursement for dermatology in the 2027 Physician Fee Schedule. These cuts threaten independent practices and patients' access to timely, high-quality care. The proposed rule impacts dermatology disproportionately because of a 50% cut to same day evaluation and procedure care (Modifier 25) and volatile shifts in practice expense calculations.
