Welcome to SANDS, the State-based Advocacy Network for Dermatologic Surgery.
SANDS is a service of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association (ASDSA) as a forum for members to exchange information, best practices, resources, and strategies for the purpose of advancing public policy which benefits dermatologic surgeons and their patients.
ASDSA was created in 2007 to promote the educational and professional interests of dermatologic surgeons; provide a vehicle for advocacy and public education efforts on behalf of dermatologic surgeons and their patients; and address socio-economic issues that impact the practice of dermatologic surgery as a specialty.
SANDS volunteers serve as the “go to” on advocacy issues for their respective states. These volunteers serve as representatives on the frontline of state and federal issues—receiving information every time a relevant regulation or bill is introduced in their states, assisting with raising awareness of that issue with their state dermatology and medical societies, as well as testifying in legislative and regulatory meetings as needed.
