A great way to become a part of the political process is by volunteering on a campaign. Volunteering is an excellent way to meet with legislators and discuss the issues which are important to you.

- If you would like to introduce legislation in your state one of the best ways to start laying the groundwork for your bill is by getting involved in your state’s election campaigns. The best time to develop friendships with politicians is during their campaigns. Getting reelected is a high priority with all elected official and those who give support and volunteer their time can enhance their relationships
- Participating during a campaign will open doors for you with candidates; however, you must sell your issue
- Campaign activities are not complex; you can become proficient in very little time. Candidates and their campaign staff welcome any help. You need only contribute a few hours of your time. Activities can include:
- Recruiting volunteers to support your legislator’s campaign – Try to recruit other dermasurgeons to be players in the political process, not just spectators
- Writing a letter to the editor
- Walking precincts to campaign for your candidate
- Putting up and taking down campaign yard signs or identifying yard sign locations
- Participating in a phone bank to call registered voters
- Hosting a campaign event
- Joining a campaign committee
- Assisting with a fundraiser
- Be a poll watcher on Election Day
